MTM5001 Students Explore Singapore’s Maritime Heritage

On 28 August 2026, students from MTM5001 embarked on an engaging learning journey through a visit to the Singapore Maritime Gallery, followed by a sea tour exploring Singapore’s maritime heritage and port waters. Staff were also invited to join the experience, making it a meaningful occasion for shared learning and discovery.

At the Singapore Maritime Gallery, students gained a deeper appreciation of Singapore’s transformation into a leading global maritime hub. Through the exhibits, they explored the nation’s maritime history, the evolution of port operations, and the developments shaping the industry’s future.

The learning journey then moved out to sea, where students experienced Singapore’s maritime environment from a different perspective. Against the backdrop of its bustling port waters, the sea tour brought Singapore’s maritime heritage to life and highlighted the important role that its ports and shipping industry continue to play in global trade.

More importantly, the experience provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning with the real-world maritime environment, deepening their understanding of how Singapore’s maritime legacy has shaped the industry of today and continues to influence its future.

The tour was an enriching addition to the MTM5001 learning experience, bringing together Singapore’s maritime past, present and future while strengthening students’ appreciation of the industry they are preparing to be part of.
