The Centre for Maritime Studies (CMS) is a research centre affiliated with the National University of Singapore (NUS), focusing on maritime affairs. Established on 29 June 2005, CMS addresses the imperative to consolidate resources for innovative research, leveraging global trade trends in Singapore and internationally.

We conduct research in areas relevant to the industry to disseminate timely information, research data, and informed perspectives on current topics. Additionally, we offer consultancy services tailored to specific demands.

We are dedicated to sharing valuable information that engages, enhances, accelerates, and creates new opportunities within the maritime community, including policymakers, the business community, academia, and the general public.

We receive support from donations within the maritime community and co-funding from the National University of Singapore. The Centre's patron is Mr. Goh Chok Tong, and the Centre's first chairman is Mr. Tan Sri Frank Tsao. As an autonomous, university-level research institute, the Centre is governed by a Board of Directors. The Centre's current Director, Professor Chew Ek Peng, oversees the Centre's day-to-day operations. The Centre consists of faculty research associates and core research staff, supported by a team of executive professionals and administrative staff.

To support our mission and engage with the industry, we organise outreach activities such as seminars, workshops, executive programmes, and conferences throughout the year.
