Maritime Discovery Expedition –
Port Operations Control Centre
On 30 August 2024, the MSc MTM students embarked on the Maritime Discovery Expedition: Route 1, with a visit to the Port Operations Control Centre (POCC).
Themed "Maritime Tomorrow," this expedition provided a firsthand look at how Singapore's port control systems maintain smooth maritime traffic and ensure the safety of vessels in one of the busiest ports in the world.
The students observed real-time operations in the control room, witnessing how state-of-the-art technologies are used to manage shipping traffic efficiently. They also toured the viewing gallery, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the complex coordination involved in overseeing port operations.
This immersive experience shed light on the critical role POCC plays in maritime safety and efficiency, offering valuable insights into the future of maritime operations. It was an eye-opening journey into the inner workings of Singapore's maritime landscape and its forward-thinking approach to innovation and sustainability.
